METZ – ‘II’ (Sub Pop) [8]

METZ’s follow-up to their sterling self-titled debut from three years ago lands in the midst of a grunge revival of sorts, but has an authenticity that could prove crucial to their survival when fashions inevitably change again. This is no homogenous rehash of Nevermind. Tracks like Spit You Out undoubtedly owe the sprawling chaos that was Nirvana: Live At Reading a fiver, but luckily the Toronto trio also steal a sideways glance at those noisy bastards in Mudhoney and Melvins. Raucous, filthy and hummable in equal measure, II says METZ are here to stay; so prepare to get dirty.

FOR FANS OF: Mudhoney, Nirvana, The Catheters, Nine Black Alps
